TOMS

im sure most of you have heard of TOMS and his shoes. i lurv these shoes and the vision this company has. and lately i have been loving some of the new styles.

currently i own this pair
 while hubby owns this pair
but both are looking slightly ratty thereby requiring us to each get another pair! {ok so maybe we'll wait till im employed and not studying my life away}
here are a few under consideration for my next pair...

and i love these for my man

while i'm a fan of the more classic look, they do have other kinds to suit multiple styles!
coral...hmm now thats tempting!
and stripes are always a must
plus they even do sunglasses...for every pair you buy: medical eye treatment, prescription glasses, or eye surgery goes to a person in need. seriously? thats amazing!

now i am frugal, so these shoes tend to be on the pricier side of my shoe budget but when i think im actually buying two pairs and one is going to someone who needs it more, i'm in. plus raising awareness while wearing them continues the perks.

however, my challenge. one that exceeds TOMS. yes lets go and meet the physical needs of these people, but above that let's show the spiritual hope as well. while these physical needs are pressing, they are in the end temporal and eternal life is possible. so let's go, provide, love, and care for others but let's also share the hope of Jesus!

[14] How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? [15] And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” [16] But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” [17] So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

pop's bday

yesterday was my dad's 60th birthday...thats right the big 60! the big surprise for this monumental birthday was a visit from my brother, his wife, and the first granbebe {they live in virginia} last week. so for his actual birthday, we celebrated low key and enjoyed some quality time and a few other items:
a spice cake complete with cream cheese frosting and pecan topping
i kept telling everyone i bought it to see what they would say. no one believed me. maybe it was the lack luster frosting job. but then they tasted it, and said then they would have believed i bought it. thank you betty for your mixes ;)
rhyming notes. a birthday tradition in our house is to have birthday signs that rhyme and contain the age we are turning. my dad has been making these signs since we were young and even though we don't live at the house anymore, he still continues them via text. whew thanks for technology! yes this rhyme=not the best, but you try sixty! not easy!
older people gifts: my dad's friend gave him a bunch of random gifts. o yea chia pet, large calculator, and even an oversized universal remote were just a few of them. lucky guy!
then we participated in a little more tradition, not necessarily tradition that occurs ever year on his birthday but nonetheless occurring annually. we watched the all star baseball game and enjoyed tots, fries, and hot dogs. while this doesn't fall into the most nutritious category, sometimes you just gotta let go and enjoy the game!

there ya have it. low key and traditional. very much like my dad
there is grandbebe l when he was here for the visit...he's wearing a shirt that reads happy birthday pop pop

slightly sad day

yesterday was a slightly sad day
1. i was forced to study all day inside without even the idea of leaving... "sit down caitlyn, don't even think about it!" and yes i did dress up just to sit at home. i mean i need some sort of creative outlet during my "stay at home" days! and nothing is cooler than wearing a big chunky necklace while talking to yourself out loud for memorizing.

2. hubby had to stay late at work because he forgot his id and had to turn around. someone please find our memory, we have each seemed to misplace it and can't remember where we left them!

3. and this is the saddest, my 6 dollar aeropostale white crop jeans zipper broke off the track. that's right, broke the track and came right off! now the real question is was it the dryer or my oh so handsome remington pup? not my angel huh?...hmmmm
but on the plus side...the belt and necklace of this outfit were purchased at garage sales! yep impressed aren't you?

poor pants...sewing in my future. unless i can start a new trend? keeping flies open. oh that might present serious future problems. hmm rethink!

hubby's shirt {french connection via tj maxx}, belt and necklace {thrifted}, shoes {kimchi blue via plato's closet}, pants {aeropostale'}, bracelets {variety of places}

happy belated 4th

how do you spend your 4th? we spend it celebrating with friends, playing games, and buying sparklers. cause everyone needs a sparkler picture that spells out sweet little nothings

confession: these were bought and taken on the 5th...why buy fireworks on the 4th when you can get them 50% off on the 5th? logical? i think so. thanks bible study girlies for being fabulous models and spellers! oh and boys for getting the shot!
